Stop a hacker

After creating a secure password to protect your identity, there are several extra steps you can take to prevent a scammer. Scammers use tech support, online forums, and websites to trick us into thinking they’re legit and actually want to help. In reality, knowledge is power and you can learn to recognize it.

1. Download antivirus software - this is one of the very first things you can do to keep yourself safe. Uninstall any software you don’t use. Research the best one and talk to your guardians about a good one for your computer or device. You should always remember that third- party apps sometimes want access to your social media and you should always double check that they are safe before allowing it.
2. Two-Factor Authentication - it may sound complicated, but really it’s just another layer of guaranteed protection. That means that it’s using a code and a password to make sure you’re really who you say you are. It may seem like another step that you don’t want to take, but it can be an easy way to use a basic push notification to keep your identity protected. 3. ** Security settings** - Firefox and other browsers will help check the security controls on your computer and let you shape your own internet experience. Firefox sets itself to Prefer: Safe mode, which turns on a safety feature that controls sites you visit.
4. Check the address/URL- We’ve said this before, but pay extra close attention to your emails and social media accounts. If the address has spelling errors or isn’t the real website, you shouldn’t download anything.
